Photos @ Marion

Not a single photo you see in the magazines is completely original! All are altered – some a bit, others a lot more – by programs like Photoshop.

This is what a friend said to me last week. I stared at her and shook my head. I told her she was ruining my trust in mankind, that there must be pure photos too! Mirror images, like the ones I see each morning before after the morning grooming! But no. My friend is an experienced photographer and she recognizes the techniques that are used to touch up the magazine photos.

Intrigued, I started to explore the possibilities of my iPhone through the Instagram (profile: Doldriest) and Camera+ app. Using those, I started to play with shades, lights, flash, crops and special effects. And here are the results. In the third photo I was trying to focus/zoom on the the ice on the glass (which didn’t work obviously). What I got was the reflection of the yard.

Did I make these photos? Yes! Did I know exactly what I was doing? No, but I just played around and stopped when the images were to my liking. What do you think, are they any good? Tips?

I like them–especially the first. But then, I’ve always been partial to leaves. :)

  2. Marion all of the images are wonderful. And I like the last one the most. It contains mystery. For me there is only embracing effects when creating a piece. The mystery, the excitement, the discovery many times over is found when experiementing. Infinite possibilities. To me that is the beauty of art. Be fearless – knowing there is something new with each step. Keep that which says something to you. Build on it.

    • You are an expert when it comes to experimenting with photos and films, Walter. Thank you for commenting and sharing your experience. You are boosting my self confidence.

      • Glad to be there Marion. You do great work. When you experiment, think in steps and save, save, save, images. If you like a result, it may not be right for what you are working on at the moment, but may work well in another piece. We have infinite memory capabilities on our computers so store images. What I like to do when putting together a piece is use different structures that I like and have saved and layer them together. Combine. And create patterns through several pieces promotes a familiarity with that structure and particular form.
I know I am writing a lot here, but it also helps me to understand what my process is as well
        Peace.

I don’t know anything about photo enhancement. But I did like your pictures!

    Have a Happy Saturday!

Another talent of you… :-) keep on ‘playing’ with your camera. Like to see more.

    • I would like to buy a camera with a zoom function, so I could shoot the details that I love so much. But they are too expensive. Now I have the means to create special photos with my iPhone, yay!

    Wow, I like them. :)

I wish thee as much pleasure in the reading, as I had in the writing. (F. Quarles)
